Storm Concepts Business Story
Business Owners Steve and Ariane Nijssen migrated to Perth from the Netherlands 20 years ago. Leaving their careers in marketing behind.
After moving to Fremantle in 2000, Steve took the plunge and left his office work behind him and followed his love of becoming a furniture maker.
He spent two years at a local ship builder. Slowly gaining the knowledge of how to use the tools and machinery they used for the fit-out of their luxury yachts.
Steve then went on to work in the production of exhibition stands for many years. First as a contractor and in 2012 he started Storm Concepts from a workshop in Bibra Lake.
Steve has since started creating stand-out ply furniture pieces for clients, mostly in the Fremantle area. After 10+ years of furniture making, there are quite a few very happy clients out there!
At the same time Ariane works behind the scenes on the marketing and the day to day admin side of the business.
The newest addition to Storm Concepts’ tool kit is a laser cutter. Steve is very exciting to put this amazing new technology to use in new display and furniture products.
What makes it all worthwhile for Storm Concepts?
Steve has a deep appreciation and love for creating something with his own two hands and his clever mind!
Although it can be challenging at times, Steve finds great fulfilment in building a business from scratch and simply seeing it grow!
The magic of Ply and the versatility of it, often leaves Steve with a smile!
A fun fact about Storm Concepts
Steve has a sweet spot for rescuing chairs from landfill. Whenever he sees an old, well-made chair on the verge, he grabs it and brings it back to the workshop.
With hopes of one day having the time to restore each one and breathing life back into them, old chairs are piling up in the workshop. Currently, there are around sixty chairs stacked up awaiting their turn of being refurnished.
